FAQ

SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE DATA AND CARE FOR NATURAL STONE MATERIALS

STONE IS A NATURAL MATERIAL AND SHOULD NEVER BE ABUSED.
1. Cleaning should be done with a neutral ph, mild detergent.

2. Under no circumstances should harsh cleaners or cleaners
containing abrasives, such as comet, be used.

3. If spills occur, they should be cleaned up
immediately.
IN MANY CASES (ACCORDING TO PROJECT REQUIREMENTS) GERELI MARBLE AND GRANITE INC. WILL SEAL COUNTER TOPS WITH A PENETRATING AND IMPREGNATING PETROCHEMICAL SEALER. WE RECCOMMEND THAT IT BE RE APPLIED FROM TIME TO TIME, ABOUT ON A YEARLY BASIS TO REJUVENATE THE APPEARANCE AS WELL AS REINFORCE THE PROTECTIVE QUALITIES OF THE APPLICATION. NORMAL MAINTENANCE INVOLVES PERIODIC WASHING WITH CLEAN, POTABLE WATER AND MILD DETERGENTS. USE SOFT CLOTHES AND CLEAN SPILLS OF ANY FOREING MATERIAL IMMEDIATELY; ALL NATURAL STONE IS POUROUS AND PERMEABLE, REGARDLESS OF HOW OFTEN IT IS SEALED. LASTING BEAUTY WILL DEPEND ON YOUR CONSCIENCIOUSNESS.

IF STAINS PERSIST A QUALIFIED CLEANING CONTRACTOR OR SOME STONE CONTRACTORS CAN USE "POULTICING" COMPOUNDS TO TRY AND EXTRACT STUBBORN MARKINGS.

WE STRONGLY DISCOURAGE THE APPLICATION OF WAXES WHICH ARE COMMONLY USED BY COMMERCIAL CLEANING COMPANIES. THEY BRING OUT THE SHINE AND LUSTRE TEMPORARILY BUT COAT THE STONE AND IN THE LONG RANGE THE WAX BUILD UP IS DELETERIOUS TO THE WELL BEING AND APPEARANCE OF THE STONE, AS WELL AS COSTLY AND TIME CONSUMING TO REMOVE.

OVER MANY YEARS STONE WILL LOSE ITS POLISH OR FINISH, DO NOT DESPAIR, REMEMBER THAT STONE CAN BE REFINISHED BY A QUALIFIED CONTRACTOR, THIS WILL BRING OUT THE APPEARANCE IT HAD THE DAY IT WAS LAID.
